Gary Edgerton FCA
Gary joined Fairhurst in 1984, becoming a qualified Chartered Accountant in 1986 on his way to becoming partner in 1996. He also passed his financial planning exams prior to setting up Fairhurst Financial Planning in 2002. Gary acts for a large number of SMEʼs with turnover up to £40m and has a particular interest in new start ups and also assisting companies in raising finance via his large network of contacts. Away from work Gary is a keen sports fan with a particular interest in Rugby League.
Stephen Elliott CTA
Stephen joined Fairhurst as a partner in 2001 after seven years with PwC in the mergers and acquisitions division. Stephen primarily works with large and medium sized owner managed businesses while also incorporating a number of multinational Plcʼs, small private clients & trusts. Stephenʼs work is focussed on providing corporate and private tax services to clients and working alongside other Fairhurst partners on mergers & acquisitions and other significant transaction work. Stephen is a keen sporting and outdoor enthusiast and has raised funds for a number of local and national charities.

James Weston FCCA
James provides general accountancy and business advice and has been with Fairhurst since 1985, becoming partner in 1994. Jamesʼ client base comprises predominantly family owned businesses with a turnover up to £30m. He also has a specialism within a number of other sectors, namely social housing and subsidiaries of local authorities, including Wigan Council. He is chairman of the firms IT committee with responsibility for the smooth running of the practices own computer systems. Prior to qualifying as an accountant, James was a professional footballer with Blackpool, Wigan Athletic and LA Skyhawks in the USA. He claims to have out played George Best in a game for Blackpool!
Jane Dennis BA (Hons) FCA
Jane trained in a Liverpool City Centre practice before joining Fairhurst in 1988 and becoming a partner of the firm in 1996. Whilst Janeʼs main role within the practice is servicing a wide SME client base, both with regard to audit and accountancy services, her team of SAGE and QuickBooks trained staff also help clients develop monthly and quarterly management reporting procedures. Jane has a particular specialism in solicitorsʼ practices, academies and charities. She also heads up the Company Formation and Secretarial department of the practice. Jane is married with two children and in her spare time loves entertaining and travelling. She is also a season ticket holder at Wigan Rugby League.
Patrick Morris CTA ACA
Patrick joined the firm in 2002 after 10 years with PwC, and became a partner in 2008. Patrickʼs work involves handling clientsʼ tax mitigation, restructuring and exit planning issues for a wide range of clients comprising predominantly, SMEʼs and high net worth individuals. Away from work Patrick is a keen cyclist and also enjoys wind surfing.

John Fairhurst BA (Hons) FCA
John qualified as a chartered accountant with Arthur Andersen in Manchester prior to moving to Fairhurst in 1989, becoming partner in 1996. John is the grandson of the founder of the firm and son of former senior partner, David. Johnʼs day-to-day role encompasses audit and accountancy services for his 200+ client portfolio (with turnovers ranging from £1m to over £50m). John is also the audit technical partner for the firm. He specialises in raising capital and debt finance for his clients and he and his team of 12 staff regularly assist in preparing profit projections, cash-flow forecasts and share valuations. John is a lifelong fan of both Wigan Warriors and Wigan Athletic as well as being their auditor!
Peter Cheetham FCA
Peter joined the firm in 1982, having previously worked for PWC and in industry. He was a partner for 32 years responsible for a mixed portfolio of clients across a wide scope of industry sectors before retiring from this role in June 2018. Peter now works as a consultant using his many years of experience to work on special projects such as strategic planning issues and business acquisitions and sales, and to assist in a smooth handover of the clients he has represented. Peterʼs interests are travel and sport, and he is a keen (but not very good!) golfer.
Martin Stewart BSc (Hons) Dip PFS
Martin joined Fairhurst Financial Planning Ltd in 2005 as a director and IFA. Martin qualified as an adviser in 1991 and has considerable experience in the financial services industry, working with individual clients and company directors. With specialist Pension knowledge and qualifications, Martin is able to advice clients on all pension matters and complex areas such as transfers and income drawdown. Martin is a keen Blackpool FC supporter and sits on the board of his local parish council.
Mark Hilton Dip PFS
Mark qualified as a financial adviser in 1992, joining Fairhurst Financial Planning in 2005 as a director and IFA. He specialises in investments, SIPP property purchases and overseas compliance within the company. Outside of work Mark is a qualified football coach and is the Chairman of Croston Juniors Football Club.
Mark Entwistle BSc (Hons) ACA
Mark has been with Fairhurst since 1987 and manages the payroll department and IT department in addition to his role as practice manager for the firm. Markʼs in-depth knowledge of Excel and his background as a computer programmer also enables him to write software programmes to help businesses run smoothly and more efficiently. He also has an excellent working knowledge of SAGE and has assisted clients where their SAGE systems have become corrupt. Away from the office Mark enjoys the outdoor life, in particular sailing and walking.
